Dr. Ted Morton

Trump vs. Hillary: Who’s better for Canada?

Dr. Morton is currently an Executive Fellow at The School of Public Policy and Professor of Political Science at the University of Calgary. He also on the Advisory Board of the Alberta Land Institute.

Dr. Morton was the MLA for Foothills-Rocky View in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 2004 to 2012. During this time, he served as Minister of Energy (2011-12), Minister of Finance (2010) and Minister of Sustainable Resources Development (2006-2009). In 2001, he was the Director of Policy and Research for the Office of the Official Opposition in the Canadian House of Commons. In 1998, he was elected as one of Alberta’s two Senators-in-waiting.

Before entering public office, Dr. Morton taught courses in Canadian and U.S. politics and public policy at the University of Calgary from 1981 to 2004. Dr. Morton’s research has been widely published and recognized by several fellowships and book awards.

Dr. Morton has been a visiting scholar at universities in France, Australia, Quebec and the United States, and is fluent in both English and French. He holds a B.A. (Phi Beta Kappa) from Colorado College and a M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.

Travis Balaski

Travis Balaski is Vice President of Ferus’ Natural Gas Fuels Canadian business unit. In this role, Travis is responsible for maximizing utilization of Ferus Natural Gas Fuels assets and developing Ferus’ offering across Canada. Travis first joined Ferus in 2006 as a co-op student.  He subsequently joined Ferus after graduation spending his first six years with the company in the engineering department supporting operations, designing equipment and managing key capital projects including the Elmworth CO2 plant expansion, Fort Saskatchewan plant construction and the Utah CO2 plant purchase. Travis expanded his role into Business Development, helping launch some of the first LNG fueling jobs in North America, supporting the Encana joint venture and initiating the ENN joint venture. Travis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and a professional designation with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

As the Director of Insight with ATB Financial’s Economics and Research team, Rob examines the economic and social forces that affect Albertans’ quality of life. He communicates his thoughts and findings in an effort to share ways in which we can all make our province an even better place to live.

Rob is also the co-author with Todd Hirsch of The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline. Before joining ATB, Rob was Vice President of Research at the Canada West Foundation where he spent almost 20 years analyzing and commenting on a broad array of economic, social and public policy issues. Rob has served as Treasurer and President of the Economics Society of Calgary and is currently the Vice-Chair of the Calgary Arts Academy, an Instructor for the University of Alberta’s National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration and a Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies.

Rob grew up in Calgary and holds a BA and MA in Political Science from the University of Calgary.

Martin Pelletier is a Portfolio Manager and OCIO (outsourced chief investment officer) at TriVest Wealth Counsel Ltd., a Calgary-based investment firm specializing in discretionary risk-managed portfolios as well as investment audit and oversight services. He is also a weekly columnist for the Financial Post, is regularly featured in the media and a member of Oilweek Magazine’s class of 2012 Rising Stars.

Prior to co-founding TriVest, Martin had an extensive career focused in energy equity research and capital markets whereby he provided investment recommendations to institutional fund managers located in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Martin grew up in a small French-Canadian farming community in Northern Alberta, attended the faculty of business at the University of Alberta & University of Örebro Sweden and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder. He is passionate about risk-managed investing, oil & gas development, financial stewardship, sustainable living, and social well-being.

Martin is a former competitor in martial arts, loves finding new places to explore locally and around the world with his wife and two young boys, moved into an Eco-friendly community, is struggling to be carbon-neutral, and still learning daily from the School of Hard Knocks.

Dimitra Katsuris has over with 25 years of varied oil industry experience. Her national and international experience includes business development, project management, training and technical expertise. Most recently she helped establish a Canada office and was key in contracting several oil field projects for Altamira Information, a Spanish based InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) provider. She held a key role in the development of the Canada program and other business development initiatives at the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th World Petroleum Congress’ (WPC). Prior to the WPC she held a Director position with the then Canada Eurasia Energy and Industry Alliance and provided channels for business development and access to key foreign officials and business leaders to Canadian firms. Her technical expertise includes conceptual design, technology development, quality assurance and detailed design in the oil field facilities.

Dimitra Katsuris holds a Bachelor of Science in Survey Engineering from the University of Calgary (Alberta, Canada) and is a Professional Engineer registered with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA).
